What is Seasoned Hardwood?

Seasoned hardwood has been split and dried until its moisture content is roughly 15–20%. Seasoning can take 6 months or more depending on wood and weather. Properly seasoned logs burn hotter and cleaner with far less smoke and creosote buildup.

Hardwood vs Softwood

Hardwoods (ash, oak, birch, beech) come from deciduous trees and burn longer and hotter with less sap/tar. Softwoods (pine, spruce) burn faster with more resin — more frequent chimney cleaning and less heat per log.
